The folic dose , also known as vitamin B9, belongs to the group of vitamin B, which are hydro-soluble (water-soluble). This vitamin participates as a coenzyme in various biochemical reactions (deductive reasoning of purine and pyrimidine synthesis of methionine , etc.). The want of folic acid can lead to a number of health problems, megaloblastic anemia, neural tube shortcoming in the developing fetus in pregnant charwoman , step-up in the degree of homocysteine leadership to other disorders etc.

The megaloblastic anemia caused by folate deficiency occurs as a cause of a disruption in the unconscious process of creating “healthy” RBC . In this situation, instead of the formula red blood cell , the bone centre produces dysfunctional erythrocytes. Because the erythrocytes are responsible for transporting oxygen and their production is disrupted, anemia occurs.

There are multiple reasons for anemia caused by folic acid deficiency. There can be:

  • Nutritional reasons.
  • Malabsorption.
  • Increased need for supplementation with folic acid.
  • Certain medications.

If you have a deficiency of this vitamin, you may have these symptoms: pale, weakness, wheezing, malaise, palpitations, reduced concentration, decreased appetite, irritability, reduced body weight and diarrhea.

Anemia caused by a lack of folic acid has similar symptoms as the anemia caused by B12 deficiency. But the deficit of folic acid more rarely causes neuropathy (tingling in the feet, unsure pace) than vitamin B12 deficiency.

The reserves of folic acid in the body are small compared to the daily requirement. Therefore, the diet low in folic acid in a relatively short time can lead to megaloblastic anemia.

The lack of folic acid can be treated with oral agents in daily doses determined by the doctor. The duration of treatment depends on the cause of folate deficiency. Preventively it is advisable to take folic acid for pregnant women and premature births.

In case of poor, but chronic deficiency of folic acid, it is advisable an appropriate diet rich in this vitamin: spinach, broccoli, citrus fruits, beans and so on.
